I don’t know about you, but I definitely have dreaded traveling at certain times, when my kids were really young.
In fact, they still are, but I’ve learned a thing or 2 along the way that now makes it a lot easier.
So here are a few things I recommend that will help make traveling with young ones a lot less stressful.
Entertainment
During the voyage itself, the key is to Keep. Them. Occupied. Small toys and games, snacks and things that will help them sleep are super helpful. Personally I like writing or drawing tablets, little cars, small magnetic board games, applesauce pouches, granola bars, nuts and dried fruits, stuffies, blankets and a small pillow.
And if your travel mode allows for it, nothing wrong with some screen time!
Pro-tip: Let them pick some of the toys to bring so you are sure to have something they really enjoy playing with.
Novelties
Often times when we are traveling there are treats and fun activities involved. Save some of them for the traveling. Anything from getting a treat at a restaurant to stopping at a theme park can keep them in a good mood because they know its coming sooner, rather then later and it will break up the traveling.
This is especially true for the trip home, when otherwise, the fun might be over. If you are traveling by air, research the airport beforehand to see restaurants, shops or activities there are available and then tell the kids about it a little while before getting there (not too soon otherwise it will turn into a are-we-there-yet situation).
Reduce YOUR stress
Traveling with kids can be overwhelming.
GETTING READY to travel with kids can also be very overwhelming.
So make your life a lot easier by using a master packing and prepping list. When you make a list from scratch (or none at all!) each time, you run the risk of forgetting something, like a little humans emotional support blanket.
Make a master list, OR even easier, download this free one so you don’t have to think of everything yourself. This is my master list that has almost everything you need to pack and do before you leave. It also has plenty of extra space to add in those things unique to your family.
Download it for FREE here.
Pro tip: Print it out, add in your unique items and then make photo copies of that list so you never forget another thing!
Bon voyage!
